Next Chamber Meeting : February 21th, Tuesday, 7:00 PM.

Community Craft Bazaar on October 15th went well, although, we did not get many browsers, but it was entertaining.  And we had a good increase in funds, considering, for our Chamber.

Next Meeting is February 21th.  Come and be part of those making a difference.
Previous Meetings:
Dept. Spear gave a good presentation, not only on Crime Prevention, but 'How to be neighborly'.  He really shows how to be a community living together.  He has a heart for Orlo Vista.  Come and see him at the Next meeting on September 20th.

Captain Dalh and Dept. Spear were there to discuss Crime Prevention procedures.  Also, OCPD Liaison, Becky Ellis, was there to help explain what to do in different crime situations.
Discussed Community Garden:  We have info fer anyone plant'n a vegetable garden.  Only one plot is left fer someone truly interested in and able to regularly tend a garden.  Come to the garden meetings 1st Monday monthly at 2 PM.  If''in ya sign the County Waiver, you too can have fun like a farmer.  Yeehaa!  Children may watch outside the garden but may not come inside the fence.  Come and see the miracle of growing our own plants.
The Epilepsy Association gave a presentation on making people aware of the symptoms and treatment the condition.  They also discussed "Shakin' Baby syndrome.  They were at the Health Fair on April 16th at OV Park.
Deputy Spear informed us of crimes in the area (crime watch report).  There were many business burglaries on Old Winter Garden Rd.   Criminals were apprehended.

A karaoke system was demonstrated by Jerry Eberly.  This could be used for young adult gatherings as well as other folk's sing along times. We had a good time with it at our extended Barbecue on April 2nd, no foolin'.  We did some foolin' around with our voices as we got to know each other a little more and we had fun too.
At these meetings, we had a good time getting in touch with others in the neighborhood.
We are planning to show Blue Ray movies at the Chamber.  Would you come to see them -
about once a month on Saturday evening?  Leave a comment on the Contact us page.

Orlo Vista History

The Orlo Vista Chamber of Commerce is better known to many as The Orlo Vista Community Center, located at 38 South Hastings Street, just South of the O.C. Fire Department / Station 30, and the new Orlo Vista Elementary School.  In May of 1927, Orlo Vista became an incorporated town, with a mayor and aldermen, and its own Post-Office! With the collapse of the Florida land boom and the start of the Great Depression, Orlo Vista had to give up its corporate status.  The community survived hard times and continues today-small but active!  One of its oldest organizations is the Orlo Vista Chamber of Commerce.  It had its humble beginning in a little frame building, built in 1937 by the National Youth Administration, located on the property which is now the aforementioned Orange County Fire Department Station 30.  Over the years, the Chamber hosted many groups, furnishing members and services to such as 4-H Club, Home Demonstration Club, Women’s Club, Wordmen of the World, County Health Clinic, Townsend Club, Progressive Citizens League, and later on such as “Grandma’s Joint” (it really jumped on Saturday nights!)  It is hard to separate the Chamber from the early days of having a Fire Department here, they were so closely associated. The Chamber was actively involved in getting fire service started here in 1953, and it remained an active volunteer Department for many years, until Orange County took over the fire services in the early ‘80s. Orange County’s early plans were to move the fire service out and farther west - a plan which riled some of our “activist” residents, and a petition of over 900 resident names was presented to Orange County officials, along with a delegation of Orlo Vista citizens- a real “grass roots” effort. The local fire service was saved by the Orlo Vista Chamber designating land for it.  There are more details in our archives.
Now, once again the OV Chamber has been renovated --a new roof was put on June, 2008.  We are ready for many new activities and events.

Orlo Vista Kids, from way back when all grown up, meet quarterly at the Orlo Vista Chamber for a Covered Dish Luncheon.
